The psalm “Miserere mei Deus” is a prayer for mercy, contrition, and renewal. Since the 1630’s, Gregorio Allegri’s famous setting has been sung at dawn during Holy Week, while the Pope kneels in prayer in the solemn candlelit atmosphere of the Sistine Chapel. This contemporary version, recorded in the special grandeur of Osnabruck Cathedral, adds new material by Vladimir Ivanoff to the ethereal harmonies of the Osnabruck Youth Choir and the elegiac brass tones of the cornetto, recreating the mysterious beauty of this sacred classic.
Following in the footsteps of the Sacred Treasures Series, this album contains extraordinarily beautiful voices. In this album, we are treated to the sounds of a high trumpet (cornetto) weaving in and out of heavenly composition.
The albums in this series are impeccably mastered by Stephen Hill and Bob Olhsson of Hearts of Space. If it were possible to make these albums even more sumptuous, they have done so.
